A couple of months ago a friend gave me a fabulous collection of vintage, and not so vintage, ties. Thrilled, I sorted out the ties that were fragile, those with spots or stains and organized what was leftover into three skirts, each a different style. These skirts are fun to wear and start some great conversations. Of the three tie skirts that I made, the wrap-around style is the easiest to make and fit. Gather a few ties, some simple supplies and you, too, can make a unique, fun skirt."
"My youth was spent in a house constantly “under construction”. Although my mother bemoaned the inconvenience, I thought it was a great adventure and loved the “doodads” left around after projects were complete. Bits of wood, nails, washers, bolts, beautiful shining metal pieces filled small, neat boxes in our garage and I helped myself to them. Also during this time, I developed a love for textiles; wearing them, altering them, knitting, sewing, crochet… etc. It is not surprising that I began to combine the two interests, and both still influence my art. My metal knitted purse is an excellent example of textile and hardware fusion."
